Moving gut microbiome research from association to causality in cardiometabolic disease

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Microbiome Health Initiative is a virtual research centre translating gut microbiome discoveries into new strategies for prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic disease in humans.

Our mission is to move microbiome research from association to causality

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Microbiome Health Initiative, or MHI, was created to accelerate the development of microbiome-based solutions for cardiometabolic disease, or CMD.

In practice, that means uncovering how gut microbial functions and metabolites directly influence disease; connecting mechanistic research with preclinical and clinical studies; and translating discovery into strategies that can improve prevention and treatment of CMD.

Who we are

Our work draws on the collective experience and knowledge of MHI’s academic and clinical partners in a coordinated international research effort supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
